Minister of Defence, Ruwan Wijeyawardene stated that there was no need to arrest army soldiers, at a media briefing held today (23), at the Sirikotha premises.

He further added former Navy Media Spokesperson DKP Dassanayake was arrested after extensive investigations and that if he had done wrong, the law will delegate a suitable punishment.

Wijeyawardene stated that although he will stand up for soldiers who have fought for the country, he will not standby any murderers, and went onto say that the hunting down of soldiers was a only done by members of the previous government.

Wijeyawardene added that the current government is making an effort to protect the dignity of war heroes, while the previous government did not do so, where he used Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka’s jail term as an example.
